About the Area

Cerro Castillo Trail

A magical mountain 2320 meter high. One of the sacred mountains of the Telhuelche native people,
With its towers and cliffs, symbols of difficulty.
A protected natural reserve, Cerro Castillo offers us unique Patagonian scenery with spectacular walls of rock and ice.

Itinerary
Day 1
We leave Coyhaique and head down south to an area called ‘Las Horqueta” where we walk to the national Reserve of Cerro Castillo
We enter the beautiful valley where the path slowly disappears and wilderness takes over. We continue until the Rio Turbio where we set our first camp.
Day 2
We progress slowly towards the mount, crossing the Paso del Penon that will bring us to the valley of the Boasque River. The valley opens up to the mystical views of the Cerro Castillo towers.
Day 3
We follow a stream, which rises up to the Laguna del Cerro Castillo, whose crystal clear water springs directly from the mountain.
Day 4
We continue our way up the mountain, admiring its fauna and flora to reach the base camp, called Camp New Zealand, where we prepare ourselves to an ascend of the peak.
Day 5
Hitting the snow line, we will attempt the peak by following the route set by other mountaineers and return to Camp New Zealand for the night.
Day 6
We descend directly to Villa Cerro Castillo, where our bus will bring us back to Coyhaique.
Day 7
Reserved for bad weather.
