Rock and Ice Trip

The Exploradores glacier is one of the biggest glacier breaking off the Ice Cap North. Falling down the un-climbable face of the San Valentin mountain it has over 1000 meter drop. From here starts the river Toponimo which flows down the Exploradores valley, rich in ecosystems and spectacular sceneries.

Day 1
Meet at your hotel to drive south along the Southern highway to the little village of Cerro Castillo where we will visit a Telhueche monument with painted hands.
Leaving the impressive Cerro Castillo mountain range, we will continue our drive to the quite town of Puerto Tranquilo, situated at the shores of lake General Carrera where we will enjoy a traditional lunch.
An afternoon boat ride will take us to visit the Capillas de Marmol, a mushroom shaped island riddled with caves and tunnels formed by the incessant climatic moodiness suffered by the lake.
Return to Puerto Tranquilo for dinner and lodge at the hostel El Puesto.

Day 2
Drive along the recently build road in Exploradores valley, which eventually will link the Exploradores glacier with the Laguna San Rafael.
It is un-doubtfully one of the most spectacular valleys with snow-capped mountains, evergreen forests, torrential rivers, hanging glaciers and more.
The road ends close to the imposing glacier by the San Valentin Mountain (4000 mt high, Patagonia’s highest mountain)
A 30 min hike through dense forest will bring us to the moraine and another couple of hours hike will get us to the crisp clean ice.
Late afternoon return to Coyhaique.
