About the Area

San Lorenzo Mountain expedition

The second highest Patagonian Mountain, 3706mt above sea level, with its spectacular glaciers, ravines, cliffs, forests and its uncertain climate is waiting for us.
From its beautiful scenery to its demanding peak, experience with us the extreme mountaineering on this magical massi.

Itinerary
Day 1
We exit Coyhaique and drive to Puerto Rio Tranquilo where we enjoy traditional lunch, then continue our journey to Cochrane town where dine and settle in a comfortable hostel.
Day2
We rise early to head down to the entrance of Fundo San Lorenzo, where after being welcomed the owner of the mountain, we organize our equipment to be carried by horse and we walk or horse ride to our first camp. We spend the evening enjoying the scenery and checking out maps and routes.
Day 3
We head up the valley Rio San Lorenzo, crossing age-old Nire and Lenga forests to reach the North side of this magical massive. We continue until reaching base camp where we finish all preparation needed for the climb.
Day 4
We head to the snow line where we check out all our gear and adjust ourselves to snowy and icy environment, which will become our grounds for the days to come.
Day 5
From base camp we climb through the Paso Del Comedor to reach our second camp just before the Breach de la Cornissa
We will enjoy mountainous scenery, with rock, snow and ice climbing.
Day 6
We continue around the mount to gain altitude and reach our camp at the base of the Calluquo glacier, where we will take enough rest to attempt the summit the day after.
Day 7
At sunrise, we continue our climb by the Calluquo Glacier to reach the north face and after a short rest, attempt the 3706mt peak. Once reached and thoroughly enjoyed, we descend back to our second camp.
Day 8
From camp 2 we push down back to the local farmer and owner for a well deserved rest and a traditional Patagonian ‘asado’ (barbecue).
Day 9
We return by horse until the road, where our bus will bring us back to Cochrane.
Day 10
With great memories and worth while experience behind, we travel back to Coyhaique.
Day 11
Reserved for bad weather and slower pace.
